Upgrading from Assignments to Classes

Introducing classes and sunsetting Assignments

What's Changing?

We're introducing a new Classes feature that makes it easier to share lessons with your students and track their progress.

Important: Assignments will be removed after October 22nd 2025

We recommend you stop creating Assignments now in order to transition over to Classes smoothly. Assignments created with due dates after October 22nd will no longer be playable.

Why Upgrade to Classes?

The Old Way (Assignments)

  1. Create a lesson

  2. Create an assignment for that specific lesson

  3. Share the assignment link with students

  4. Repeat steps 2-3 for every new lesson you want to share

The New Way (Classes)

  1. Create a class once

  2. Invite your students to the class once

  3. Share any lesson with that class instantly

  4. Students automatically get access to all shared lessons and can view them on their homepage.

Key Benefits of Classes

✅ Set Up Once, Use Forever

Create your class roster once by inviting students via email or sharing an invite link. You never need to collect student information again.

✅ Instant Lesson Sharing

Share any lesson with your class in one click. No need to create individual assignments. Your students see all shared lessons on their homepage automatically.

✅ Better Tracking

Get reliable reports showing:

  • Which students have viewed the lesson

  • Who started and completed quizzes

  • Quiz scores and pass/fail rates

  • Engagement metrics and analytics

✅ Reusable Student Rosters

Use the same class throughout the semester or year. Share multiple lessons with one class without re-inviting students.

✅ Privacy & Organization

  • Students only see lessons shared with their classes

  • You can filter reports by class

  • Cleaner organization than managing individual assignments

    • Analytics Tab: See overall class performance, difficult questions, engagement metrics

What About My Existing Assignments?

Your existing assignments will continue to work until October 22nd 2025.

However, we recommend:

  1. For new content: Use Classes instead of creating new assignments

  2. For existing assignments: They'll keep working, but consider migrating to Classes for better organization

  3. For active classes: Create a Class and invite your students now, then use it for all future sharing

Migrating Existing Assignments to Classes

If you want to migrate an existing assignment to Classes:

  1. Create a class

  2. Invite your students to the class

  3. Share the lesson with that class (using the Share menu)

  4. Students who join the class will have access to the lesson

  5. You can archive or delete the old assignment if you no longer need it

Note: Student progress from assignments cannot be automatically migrated to class reports. Class reports only show activity from students who are members of the class.

Common Questions

Can I still create assignments?

Assignments are still available for now, however, we recommend using Classes for new sharing as they provide a better experience and we will be removing Assignments later.

Do students need to create accounts?

Yes, when students join a class, they create a Quizgecko account. This enables better tracking and allows them to access all lessons shared with their class. Students can use their email or sign in with Google.

Can I have multiple classes?

Yes! Create as many classes as you need (e.g., different periods, different courses, different semesters).

Can I share one lesson with multiple classes?

Absolutely! When sharing a lesson, you can select multiple classes. Each class will get access, and you can filter reports by class.

What if a student isn't in my class yet?

Just send them an invitation! They can join anytime using the email invitation or class invite link.

How do I remove a student from a class?

  1. Open your class

  2. Find the student in the Members list

  3. Click Remove

  4. The student will no longer have access to lessons shared with that class

Can students leave a class?

Currently, only teachers can remove students from classes. If a student wants to leave a class, they should contact you.

Is student data private?

Yes! Student information is only used for educational purposes within your classes. We don't share data with third parties, and students can request account deletion anytime. See our Privacy Policy for details.

What emails will students receive?

We respect student privacy and only send essential emails:

Emails we DO send:

  • Class invitation emails (when you invite them)

  • Password reset emails (if they request it)

  • Critical account or security notifications

Emails we DON'T send:

  • Marketing emails

  • Product updates or newsletters

  • Promotional content

  • Any non-essential communications

We never:

  • Sell student data to third parties

  • Share student information with advertisers

  • Use student emails for marketing purposes
